Zalon, friend and former backing vocalist to the late Amy Winehouse releases a song to mark the stars birthday. “You Let Me Breathe“, is taken from Zalon’s EP due for release later this year. The song is Zalon’s emotional tribute to Amy, who supported and believed in him as an artist, signing him to her label Lioness, featuring him on her album Back to Black deluxe, and encouraging him to perform his own songs in the middle of her set whilst on tour.

The song is accompanied by a collection of behind the scenes footage of Amy and Zalon on tour sharing moments with others stars from Jay-Z, Beyoncé; Jack White (White Stripes) to Chaka Khan and Pattie Labelle. Zalon takes us on a journey, from before the stardom, to the unparalleled success.

Firstly I want to thank everyone for all the sweet messages and tweets, you guys are my rock.

I found that writing my thoughts and feelings down, helped me to cope with Amy's passing, so I shall try to keep it up. Those who have been following me for some time know that I'm not the best with writing consistently, but new beginnings as they say lol

So I went to Amy's house to pay my respects, one year ago she passed...I remember just landing in Spain for a holiday, I just arrived at my apartment and then my phone blew up. I received all these messages on my phone...I had hundreds of messages, voicemails, tweets, Facebook messages, missed calls....All saying something like "RIP Amy" or "Zalon are you ok, have you heard?"

Now we've had hoax in the past and I hoped it was just another one of those times...........I froze trying to compose myself.......so I called our manager but his phone was going to voicemail.....panicking now I struggled to think of who could confirm if this was really happening...I called the managements office and I asked if it was true...and the reply was "Zalon i'm so sorry...i'm sorry it's true"

I broke down.....how could this be....this can't be true.......I couldn't stay in the country, so I got on the next flight out of the country and went round to the family's house. Amy's mum grabbed me straight away and said "Zalon YOU ARE FAMILY" which was very heart warming that she recognized how much her daughter and I loved and looked out for each other.

So a year later I arrive at the house to be greeted by so many of the fans outside...I greet the family, band and the whole team. There were so many cards and I could feel the love from everyone around.

Next we hit Jazz after dark, love and laughter filled the air just as Amy would have wanted...food all around and an open bar........It was lovely seeing Tyler, Dionne Bromfeild, the band and the whole family again. Everyone was reliving happy memories and also informing everyone of what they'd been up to over the past 12 month.....

Reflecting, it reminded me of our journey and how many lives she touched and I feel proud to have been apart of it all.

Remembering my friend Amy Winehouse

A year ago today since you passed away….

SOMETIMES I FEEL like it’s not even real.

SOMETIMES I FEEL like we’re just on a break between tours and i’ll see you soon smiling, jumping into my arms, and wrapping your legs around me.

SOMETIMES I FEEL sad, sad that i’ll never see your face again.

SOMETIMES I FEEL happy for all the amazing moments we shared.

SOMETIMES I sit outside your house and say a little pray for you.

SOMETIMES I think back to the time when I knew early on that I had met someone special…I knew early on that I was with a legend….I knew you’d be remembered for a lifetime but i didn’t know that i’d lose you so soon..

SOMETIMES I think about all the things you taught me, you helped me find my truth in my music, I used to record just to get a ‘HIT’ but you taught me about capturing my truth. Now I have been recording my album ‘By Feelings and not by Thought’

SOMETIMES I think about all the good times we had…singing in our hotel room and on the tour bus till early hours, man we had some good times.

SOMETIMES I remember that we were only suppose to tour for 3 months but the album blew up so much we toured for 5+ years.

SOMETIMES I remember us playing in small clubs to huge stadium tours…wow…We did it.

SOMETIMES I think about the Grammy night and how electric the air was that night….I remember saying “Amy you did it” and you replied “No Zalon We did it” that I WILL NEVER FORGET

I WILL NEVER FORGET when we first met at 10 rooms, the Frank album had been released but I didn’t know who you were. I was performing onstage and you jumped onstage in the middle of my song and said “You’re Amazing” and I said “Ok thanks but I’m performing and then you said “No but you’re Amazing” and I said Thank you very much but I’m performing” the audience looking at us both while the band continued to play. Then Patrick Alan the host said “Ladies and Gentlemen Miss Amy Winehouse”…we dueted and I said “Oh my God…YOU’RE AMAZING” we hit it off from there, we had a bond that was about to take us on the most amazing journey.

I WILL NEVER FORGET when you told me you opened Lioness records so you could give me and others who you believed in a chance. You met me in 10 rooms but never forgot that I was also on a journey

I WILL NEVER FORGET  that you promoted my website at every show, allowed me to feature on your album and even perform my own songs in the middle of your tours….what am amazing woman….

I WILL NEVER FORGET how amazing you were to me…

I WILL NEVER FORGET bringing Caribbean food – Jerk Chicken Rice and Peas as I always wanted to make sure you had eaten…I did this for years…then one day I asked you what your favourite meal was and you said Carribean Stew Chicken and I said “Why did you never tell me, I could have bought it for you”…you said “You didn’t want to dissappoint me.” This was you, you always put others first…that’s what i loved about you.

I WILL NEVER FORGET how we use to flirt like school children…

I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND I WILL NEVER FORGET US
